Case study: Rapid response and a flexible, tailored service

Published: Monday, 8 September 2025

We know the value that customers living in the Nottingham locality place on us providing a local service – meaning that we’re not only available on the end of a phone, but we also have teams out and about in the locality who can respond and assist if needed.

That was demonstrated recently when we received a referral from a care worker to install a key safe at the home of a resident recently discharged from hospital.

The gentleman lives with a range of long-term health conditions, including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and diabetes. Due to mobility issues, he was confined to living downstairs.

The key safe was required urgently as the resident’s existing key safe had been damaged. The resident also had a care alarm package in place with another supplier.

What we did…
Given the urgency, an appointment for the key safe installation was arranged for the next day.

During discussions our installation engineer had with the resident, it became clear that his existing care alarm service was costly. The Nottingham on Call service was offered as a more affordable option, with a package including a care alarm and falls detector.

At this stage, our engineer had not entered his home and a follow-up appointment was arranged to install a care alarm and falls detector.

During the appointment, our engineer noticed some other risks when in the resident’s home, including:

  • the resident’s limited mobility and,
  • the cluttered environment within the home, that was a potential fire risk

Based on this, our engineer recommended the installation of additional smoke detectors. By this time, the resident had been assessed for and received a social care package, meaning he became a funded customer – reducing his weekly charge and meaning we were able to install the additional smoke detectors at no extra cost.

Thanks to our commitment to providing services based on your own individual needs and circumstances, we were able to provide the resident with:

  • Immediate safety: The emergency key safe installation allowed safe and secure access for carers and responders from the next working day.
  • Cost savings: By transferring to Nottingham on Call, the resident reduced his care alarm service costs, easing financial pressure.
  • Safety: Additional smoke detectors were installed to counter the risks associated with the resident’s mobility and living environment.
  • Sustained independence: The tailored care alarm package has enabled the resident to remain safely in his own home, with reduced risks of falls, fire, and hospital re-admission.
