Nottingham On Call Standalone Equipment

Published: Friday, 2 February 2024

Nottingham on Call is well known for its excellent care alarm with monitoring and response service. There is where our customer is provided with a care alarm and pendant with a SIM card which is plugged in to a suitable power socket. When needed, the pendant can be pressed which connects you directly with our 24/7 call centre. Additional sensors and detectors may be linked to this system as needed, for example a falls detector, which detect a fall and let us know automatically.

When an alert comes through from the pendant or one of the linked sensors the trained call handlers will establish the nature of the situation and provide the appropriate response. This could be contacting the named next of kin, calling emergency services, even taking no action if we establish there is no emergency and it was a false alarm.

The Nottingham on Call service is especially important for customers who live alone or the people they live with are not available all of the time e.g. are at work.

You may not know that Nottingham on Call also provide a range of equipment for people who may not need an alert raising at our call centre.  For example, you just need to alert the other people in the house that some attention / support is needed.

A scenario may be that due to an illness or disability one person is mainly in bed or in a room and just need to alert their partner or someone else living in the home that they need some help. In addition, some of the equipment is there to prompt and support you at home.

The range of equipment which is not linked to the call centre is known as standalone equipment. There is more information on the website

Some examples of standalone equipment and their uses are as follows:-

Home Safety Alert

This is a type of care alarm and pendant, however the alert is raised at a locally worn pager normally worn by the carer, rather than at our call centre. This would be used by someone to notify the other person living in the home that they need some help.

Memrabel

This is a computer tablet type device which is set up to show the current time and if it is daytime or night-time. This can help orientate the user to the correct time of day and can prevent for example a trip to the shops at 3am as the clock clearly says it is night-time. In addition, the Memrabel can be set up to provide the user with reminders.  This can be regular medication or even one-off events such as appointments.

Night Lights

These are motion sensing lights which will turn on when they sense movement. A common use for these will be to place them in a hallway leading to the toilet.  If the user is going to the toilet without putting the lights on, the night light will automatically come on and light up the hallway for a minute to allow the user to walk safely past without tripping.

There are other types of standalone equipment Nottingham on Call is able to offer depending on your circumstances.  Please get in touch with our advisors on 0115 7469101 Option 1, or by emailing at atservice@nottinghamcity.gov.uk
