International Day of Older Persons 2023

Published: Friday, 11 August 2023

Sunday 1 October is International Older People’s Day and we're taking time at Nottingham On Call to celebrate all of the wonderful older people in Nottingham, as well as across the world.

This year’s IDOP theme encourages people to get curious and be proud about your place; to come together across age-groups to discover your place’s past, to celebrate the diverse range of people and places making yours a great place to age, and to commit to make changes, so more people can enjoy good later lives in your community – now and in the future.

Nottingham On Call is a local company supporting people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire with the challenges of growing older. As a company we couldn't be prouder of having our amazing city in our name. So this years theme is one that is close to our hearts. We love Nottingham and all that is has to offer.

What is International Older People’s Day?

On International Older People’s Day, leaders from across the UK committed to making communities great places to grow old in. Nottingham City Council is asking organisations across the city to change the way we talk about getting older.

Many of us are living for longer. It is therefore vital that we are all able to make the most of our extra years. We can start by talking differently about ageing. So many people have greater self-confidence in later life. Not to mention the wealth of experience older workers bring to their workplaces. It’s time we celebrated people as they are getting older.

Wherever you are living, whether in your own home or a care home, everyone has the opportunity to get involved and contribute to celebrating the contribution being made by older people in communities across the UK for IDOP 2023.
