Great progress on the digital switchover
Published: Friday, 28 November 2025
In January 2027 the analogue phone network is being switched off. This means all our care alarms need to be switched to digital channels by this date.
We've made great progress getting our customers switched over in advance of the deadline - including installing digital alarms in all of Nottingham City Council's independent living communities (more than 2,000 residents) and 65% of our 3,500 private customers.
BT changes
In October of this year we told you about changes that British Telecom (BT) were making to the UK's telephone network that meant they would be withdrawing analogue telephony for businesses ahead of the January 2027 date - which would impact us and our remaining 1,100 customers with an analogue alarm.
We only had until the end of November to switch customers with analogue alarms to digital - so announced a temporary pause in taking on new service requests so we could focus on an urgent programme to replace remaining analogue care alarms with new digital devices. You can read more about that by clicking here.
A real team effort
After the BT announcement our team worked hard to meet the end of November deadline - writing to all our customers in need of switching and calling them to arrange appointments to install their new digital alarm. We managed to contact almost 900 customers in that short period - and many of these customers have now had their care alarms switched to digital. A brilliant effort from the whole Nottingham on Call team - and thank you to all our customers who have been able to accommodate our appointments.
Extension to the deadline
The good news is that we've just managed to agree an extension with BT to keep our analogue telephony system until March of next year - which means that customers who have yet to be swapped to digital can have the peace of mind that their existing care alarm will continue to work until that time and that we now have more time to get everybody transferred to a digital system who needs to be.
Getting in touch
We'll be getting in touch with anybody who hasn't yet been switched over to a digital alarm shortly to make sure you are swapped well ahead of the new March deadline.
But, if you're at all concerned about your older analogue alarm not working, you can call us on 0115 746 9777 and speak to a member of the team about getting your alarm swapped to digital.
Back to business as usual
We're pleased that we're also now able to get back to business as usual when it comes to accepting new service requests, which can be made by completing our online contact form.
As you might imagine, we do have a backlog of referrals and enquiries that we're now working through, which means progress might take a little longer than it would usually.
If you've made a request or been in contact during the pause, we're working through your enquiries as quickly as possible.
Our usual target time for installing new equipment from the processing of a referral is 10 to 14 days.
This will be a little longer while we work hard to catch up and we thank you for bearing with us during this time.
