When people think about staying safe and independent at home, a care alarm and pendant like the type we provide at Nottingham on Call is often the first solution that comes to mind.
For many people, this is absolutely the right choice.
We currently support almost 7,000 people across Nottingham City and Greater Nottingham.
Most of our customers have a care alarm and pendant linked directly to our call handling centre in Nottingham. This provides reassurance for people who may live alone, feel vulnerable, have reduced mobility, or need extra support in an emergency. At the press of a button, you can quickly connect with our team and get the right help when it matters most.
We’d love to talk to you about the alarms and packages we can provide to keep you safe at home. Get in touch today by completing this short online contact us form.
Could smart home technology be an option for you?
A care alarm is not the only option available to help you remain safe and independent at home.
In some situations, smart home technology and smartphone apps can offer additional or alternative support. They can help people manage everyday tasks, maintain routines, and feel more connected while living independently.
For example, smart technology can support medication routines through reminder apps or voice assistants like Amazon’s Alexa, helping you remember when to take medication.
Voice-enabled devices can also provide companionship and mental stimulation by playing favourite radio stations, music, games, quizzes, and audiobooks, which may help reduce feelings of loneliness or isolation.
Other smart devices, like Smart Plugs, can also make everyday life easier and safer.
When connected to a voice assistant like Alexa, Smart Plugs can be used to switch lights, kettles, or other appliances on and off remotely.
Something as simple as turning on a lamp without needing to get up can help reduce the risk of trips or falls, particularly during the evening or night.
Notts Help Yourself
As part of a joint project between Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, useful advice and guidance on smart home technology is now available through the Notts Help Yourself website.
There will be many situations where a Nottingham on Call care alarm is the most appropriate way to help someone stay safe and supported at home.
But for others, combining or introducing smart technology may help them to remain independent for longer, giving them more choice, confidence, and control over daily life.
The right support looks different for everyone. Whether that’s a care alarm, smart technology, or a combination of both, the most important thing is finding the solution that works best for each individual.
